Years 7 - 10
Years 7–10 provide a dynamic phase of learning where students expand on the knowledge, skills, and habits developed in Primary School. This stage encourages growing independence, deeper thinking, and greater responsibility, while offering a wider range of learning opportunities that challenge and engage students. Together, these years support students to strengthen their capabilities and confidently move towards their future pathways.
Year 7 supports a smooth and confident transition into Secondary School. To help students and families prepare for this important step, we host a dedicated Year 6 transition evening, designed to introduce the structure of Secondary learning and provide students with the tools and confidence they need to begin Year 7 at FCC well. In addition, our Step-Up Day at the end of the year gives students a valuable opportunity to experience a “day in the life” of Year 7 before officially making the transition.
Year 7 is a busy and exciting year as students move from the familiarity of Primary School into a broader range of subjects and expectations. Many students experience the “juggle” of multiple teachers, classrooms, and routines for the first time. To support this change, we intentionally mirror aspects of the Primary School curriculum while gradually introducing Specialist Programs that help students grow in independence, organisation, and confidence as they begin their Secondary School journey.
In Years 8–10, students continue to build upon the foundations established in Year 7, engaging with a broad and increasingly diverse curriculum designed to extend their learning and skills. As students progress, they are given greater opportunity to explore a wider range of rotation subjects, allowing them to discover new interests and strengths across different learning areas.
In Year 9, students consolidate their learning from previous years and are introduced to Career Education and Outdoor Education, providing meaningful opportunities to explore future pathways and develop practical life skills. These programs continue into Year 10, supporting students to apply their learning in real-world contexts and build resilience, teamwork, and decision-making skills.
Year 10 plays an important role in preparing students for Senior School (Years 11 and 12), helping them make informed choices about their future pathways and equipping them with the academic and personal skills needed for success. This stage of learning supports students to develop greater independence, confidence, and responsibility as they prepare for the senior years of schooling.
Through a balance of core subjects and elective options, students are encouraged to deepen their understanding, apply their learning in meaningful contexts, and begin shaping their future directions.
